Syllabus and Curriculum

Hillwoods School is a co-educational English medium school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi, an all-India board. A wide selection of subjects is offered across the Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams, providing students with the opportunity to specialize in their chosen fields of interest.

Secondary & Senior Secondary

At the Class X level, students are prepared for the CBSE Secondary School Examination (SSE). The following subjects are compulsory:

  • English
  • Hindi/Sanskrit
  • Social Studies (History, Civics, and Geography)
  • Mathematics
  • Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
  • Additional Skill Subject (Information Technology/Artificial Intelligence/Financial Market

In Class XII, students appear for the Senior School Certificate Examinations conducted by CBSE. English is a compulsory subject, while students can choose optional subjects from the following streams:

  • Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Education
  •  Commerce: Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, Informatics Practices, Entrepreneurship, Physical Education 
  •  Humanities: History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Physical Education

Our curriculum focuses on conceptual learning rather than rote memorization. Students are not burdened with examinations; instead, their assessment is based on overall performance, with the goal of excelling in every field. Keeping pace with technological advancements, Computer Science is emphasized across all branches, integrating digital tools wherever possible.

Middle School

          Middle school students are at the threshold of more advanced learning. They are encouraged to explore broader academic horizons through         innovative teaching techniques, ensuring an effective and engaging learning experienceComputer-aided learning is frequently used to reinforce concepts. The focus is on conceptual understanding rather than rote learning.

The Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system is followed, grading students on a seven-point scale. Practical applications in Mathematics and Science, along with projects in Social Studies, provide hands-on learning experiences. Artificial Intelligence as a Skill subjects introduced at this level. 

Primary School

            The primary school curriculum is designed to cater to the needs of growing children, preparing them for middle school as well-rounded learners. It focuses on both physical and cognitive development, with a special emphasis on personality growth.

The school strictly adheres to CBSE guidelines, incorporating evolving educational trends to ensure cognitive and holistic development. We employ innovative teaching methods and computer-aided learning, making the curriculum both engaging and challenging for young learners.

At this stage, no final exams are conducted. Instead, continuous and comprehensive assessment ensures a stress-free learning experience, with students evaluated based on their daily performance.

School Evaluation System

          The school follows the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system up to Class VIII, grading students on a seven-point scale as prescribed by CBSE.

In the senior section (Classes IX–XII), students are assessed through:

  • Class Tests
  • Periodic Tests
  • Half-Yearly Examinations
  • Annual Examinations

These assessments help track students' progress throughout the academic year while strictly adhering to CBSE rules and norms.

Language

           The medium of instruction and communication throughout the school is English. Fluency in English is considered essential, as it provides students with access to modern knowledge and global opportunities, especially in Science and Technology.

However, Hindi, as the national language, holds a significant place in the curriculum, and every effort is made to ensure that students achieve a high standard in it.

To meet CBSE requirements, a third language, Sanskrit, is taught in Classes VI to X.
