The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) was set up by NITI Aayog for transforming the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the country. A key initiative of AIM is establishing a network of Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) with the objective of creating scientific temper as well as cultivating the spirit of curiosity and creativity among young minds. To fulfill this mission the Atal tinkering Lab of Hillwoods school Gandhinagar was inaugurated on 26th September, 2017 by Honourable Education minister Shri Bhupendrasinh .M. The inaugural function began with plantation of saplings by all the dignitaries which symbolized their role as mentors and nurturers of young innovators . Honourable minister unveiled the inaugural stone of Atal Tinkering Lab which was followed by the screening of activities of ATL thereafter he had a glance of innovative projects of students. The minister along with the eminent scientists released the ATL manual which comprises of the curriculum as well as the activities to be conducted in 2017-18. Honourable minister in his speech inspired and motivated students by reciting few lines of Manushya Tu Bada Mahan and envisaged students to identify their own hidden potential and make use of all the facilities available to them. ATL provides an enabling environment for students to innovate through a do-it-yourself approach. The Labs will be equipped with sophisticated machines and instruments such as 3D Printers and Microcontrollers for honing the technical and innovation related skills of students. They will help to bring theoretical concepts to life and inculcate a range of skills including those pertaining to design, computational thinking and physical computing. Due to the practical orientation of this approach, students will learn to make which, in turn, can lead to the development of real-world applications and new enterprises. We at Hillwoods envisage ATL to be incubator that can help to shape a generation of citizens who are well versed with the benefits, challenges and consequences of technology use. The Vice Principal Ms. Sunita Sehgal proposed the vote of thanks. She said that we are confident that initiatives such as these will transform conventional teaching methods in India by facilitating the all-round development of young minds and giving them the space to put their ideas into practice. Establishment of ATL at Hillwoods is just another step to the fulfillment of our Mission.
