Mini Marathon Run (5 Km) direction form MoD( Ministry of Defence, Govt. Of India), Sports Authority of India, N.S. Western Centre. Gandhinagar conducted as a Initiative for Republic Day Celebration 2017 at karnavati Club, Ahmedabad on 22.01.17 at 7.30 a.m The event witnessed participation from the members of Karnavati Club & other prominent clubs of Ahmedabad, athletes from Sports Authority of India, award winning players from various sports, dignitaries, business tycoons, professionals, students and fitness freak citizens of Ahmedabad. Our Students also participated with full enthusiasm and enjoy the event. The event gets ended with presentation ceremony & live performance by a renowned band who serves incredible patriotic music.

Anti Cracker Rally

�EARTH PROVIDES ENOUGH TO SATISFY EVERY NEED BUT NOT EVERY MAN�S GREED�
Crackers hold the fascination for both young and old alike , there is no dip in its popularity. Children being the largest consumers of crackers needs to be educated about its harmful after effects . Taking up this cause Hillwoods School decided to organize an Anti Cracker Rally . The students take it upon their shoulder to educate the citizens of Gandhinagar about the ill effects of crakes and celebrate Diwali with candles , sweet and non polluting crackers available in the market . The students went to various parts of the city holding banners and placards denouncing the use of crakers . The students took a pledge of not to burst crackers and to spread word in their neighbourhood and friends about the same.

Chaitanya Khoj Quiz 2016-17

Hillwoodians participated in the Chaintaniya Khoj 2016- 17,inter school quiz competition held by Chaintaniya school in the town hall in sector 17.Students participated in two categories Group A(class VII and Class VIII) and Group B(class IX and X).Students of group A, Manvender of class VII and Siddarth Mauyra of class VIII were able to win the rolling trophy named �Appa memorial trophy� by competing against 30 school of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. They also won the prizes of Jackpot Round and Spot the Bhugol Round.These students put forward a splendid display of their knowledge of the world and brought laurels to the school .Students of Group B ,Shivam Patel of class IX and Vraj Shah of class X secured the second place in the quiz competition. They won the prize in the spot the Bhugol Round.

World Anti Suicide Rally

"SUICIDE DOESN�T GIVE AWAY THE PAIN. IT GIVES IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. KEEP LIVING WE NEED YOU".
Students of various Schools including Hillwoods, Gandhinagar rallied �WORLD ANTI SUICIDE DAY� to Spread awareness among people on 10th September 2016. The Rally was initiated and organized by Surakshasetu and Medical Association, Gandhinagar. The peaceful demonstration started at 8:30 a.m. outside from the Civil Hospital, Gandhinagar and ended at the Circle Gh-4 near Mahatma Mandir.

Teacher's Day Celebrations

As a mark of respect and to recognise teacher's contribution towards society, most countries celebrate Teacher's Day. In India, we observe it on September 05, a day the teacher and president Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born in a Telugu Brahmin family in a village. All accross the world, Teacher's Day celebrations are underaken to honour teachers for their sincere efforts to impart knowledge to their students. By having celebrations on Teachers Day, we convey the message that we care for our teachers, just as they do. Celebration of festivval is the recognition of the devotion with which teachers undertake the responsibility of educating a child academically as well as morally. On this day, school students of class 12 dressed up like teachers and taught their juniors the same way as teachers do. Teachers also enjoyed by playing few games. The students performed a dance, delivered a speech and felicitated the teachers with roses. The students thanked the teachers for being a part of their life.

Donate Organs Save Life

Hillwoods School, Gandhinagar had organized workshop on Organ Donation. The motto behind the workshop was to bring awareness amongst students. Khalil Gibran, the celebrated poet, artist and writer once said, "you give little when you give your possessions. it is when you give yourself that you truly give." The quote could well personify the behind organ donation. The concept of organ donation holds a special value in a country like India where the culture of giving is celebrated in each festival be it Diwali, Eid or Christmas.

International Poetry Fest 2016

Hillwoods School, Gandhinagar was provided with a golden opportunity to attend the International Potry Fest, organized by Delhi Poetry Slam at MICA Institute, Ahmedabad. Three students from our school Anushikha Pokhriyal (10-C), Chritian Airlyn (11-B) and Simran Sandhu (11-A) participated in the fest.
It was a three day seminar held from July 29 to July 31, 2016. The seminar for augmentingour poetry writing skills was taken by Ikenna Onyegbula - a World Slam Poetry Champion 2014 and a four time Canadian National Poetry Slam Champion and Kyle Louw - a writer, a spoken word poet and a renowned World Poetry Slam Champion.
For the opening, Ikenna and Kyle performed their pieces called Beethoven and Truth be Told. The participants were introduced with the various aspects of poetry writing like connection, inspiration, expression, clarity, channelization, originality, rhythm, simplicity and a broader sense about poetry. Amidst an interaction with the mentors, the audience spoke about the meaning of poetry, where come called it love, connection or therapy, some called it as an escape from their problems, confidence to deal with them or purging of heart. The seminar ended with an Open Mic Night where everybody was to perform their pieces free of all barriers.
On the second day, the students were made to see videos of various slam poets performing live and the people in the room were asked to rate them and also justify their score. After this course, the students were made to perform and activity to introduce ourselves at different levels from 1 to 10 and also sharing our fears with a complete stranger to build confidence and crate self awareness. After these activities, students were taught about the basic tenets of inituitive connective performance. It was followed up with a question and answer session.
The last day of the seminar was a celebration day which witnessed various performances by the students of the institute and the students of our school too. The performances were praised and acknowledged by the mentors. The evening was concluded by Kyle and Ikenna performing their bests.
Our motive to attend the poetry fest was for children to enhance their poetry writing, connective and oratory skills from soup to nuts wised up.

Interhouse Radio Show

�Some people believe in god, I believe in music. Some people pray, I turn on the radio.�
Hillwoods School conducted Interhouse Radio Show for classes 11th and 12th. Nearly 40 students participated in total from all the houses. But why radio show? When radio was invented by Nikolai Tesla in 1893, it was primarily used to maintain contact between two or more ships at sea. The rise of technology was predicted to spell the end of traditional media. But despite the nation�s fascination with latest gadgets, it seems the simple pleasure of listening to radio is what makes people most happy. Happiness is � a song from your childhood when suddenly comes on the radio. Today, radio is a major source of news, weather and entertainment and the RJ (Radio Jockey) is that unknown person who connects to you. It is the most intimate, socially personal medium in the world. The motive of conducting this competition is to signify the importance of radio and enhance the speaking and listening skills of the students. It also develops team spirit amongst all the participants. The rules of the competition are: The presentation should be of minimum 8 minutes and maximum 10 minutes. If the time limit exceeds, negative marking will prevail. Minimum no. of participants from each house is 8 and maximum is 10. No Hindi words to be used. The judgment was based upon the presentation, humor, speech and voice modulation of each house. All the performances were outstanding and engrossing. The mimicry, jingles, songs, parodies, prank calls, funny interviews all were performed creatively by the students. Later Vice Principal Ma�am Miss Sehgal gave her views and guided the students on where they need to work. At last after much anticipation the results were announced: the first position was won by Nalanda House, second position by Sanchi house, the third position was won by Takshashila house and the fourth position was given to Ujjain house. It was a very entertaining, pleasant and successful event.

Independence Day Celebrations

The 70th Independence Day was celebrated at Hillwoods with great enthusiasm. Mr. R. K. Mishra was our guest of honour. The celebration began with salutations to our national flag followed by the national anthem.
Students of classes third, fourth and fifth gave beautiful performances, showing Unity in Diversity in India. Jayveer Singh Chauhan of class IV expressed his views on democracy. We also honoured out national heroes that is the Indian Soldiers through a beautiful poem which was presented by Abhinav Singh Shekhawat of class VI. A beautiful song was also sung in the glory of our nation. Parents were also a part of the celebration and applauded our children. Every one who was a part of the celebration, enjoyed the program, with a feeling of pride for their country.

Hillwoods wins laurels at Divine Fest - 2016

Every experience opens new vistas which lead to success and glory. Divine Child International School, Adalaj had organized their 'Annual Inter School Event - Divine Fest - 2016' on August 13, 2016 at their school premises. The fest consisted of various competitions in literary, culinary and cultural categories. Hillwoods school was one among schools of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad which participated in all the six categories. The event became a memorable one when in the Debate competition, Oishikhi Ghosh of class IX-A who spoke against the motion 'Elections are just a force' got the first prize and was awarded with a trophy. In the same category, Sakshi Vakharia of class IX-C who spoke in favour of the motion, sttod third. Gayatri Kumar of X-B was awarded with a trophy for securing second position in Group-B debate competiton. Devanshi Oza of IX-C participated in painting competition and stood second.
Hillwoods school's students added one more feather to the cap of success by making the school feel proud once again.

Hillwoods shines at InterSchool Event Srijan-2016 (DPS Bopal)

Srijan- the new beginning of innovation, a flight to the clouds condensed of ideas, a platform where art and technology from �young brain� find their screen to reboot. Hillwoodians became a part of this vibrant gathering when DPS Bopal organized their SRIJAN - 2016 on August 06,2016. The Interschool Creative Extravaganza had more than 26 reputed schools of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar participating in it. It had a series of competitions which demanded a fusion of old and new ORATORY SKILLS, KISHORE VAIGYANIK, NRITYANJALI, FESTO � O MUSICA, RANGMANCH, TECHNO WARRIORS, KALAYATAN, AND GANITAGYA . Eight hundred fifty plus students of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad were after one SRIJANSHREE trophy. Yet Hillwoodians brought to the school this pride by winning at four competitions:

  • �Nrityanjali� � Classical dance � First Prize (Participants: Ishita Dang, Vaishnavi Patel, Amisha Negi, Sakshi Mishra, Kathamrita Roy, Aashana Shiva)
  • �Fest-O-musica�- Battle of Western Music - Second Prize (Participants:Nistha,Trishala, Shivanu, Gayatri, Akshiti, Mansi and Vaibhav of class X)
  • Techno Warriors: Group B :�Maze Mania (Web Design)� � First Prize (Participants: Kathan Patel and Nischay Joshi of class X)
  • �Techno Warriors�: Group C : Code Warriors (Gaming Application Programming) � Third Prize (Participants: Shreedutt Vyas and Aatish Chaudhary of class XII-A)
The School grabbed the coveted rolling trophy 'SrijanShree - 2016' for their remarkable performance in all the events. Hillwoods School participated in every event providing the students with experience in this competitive field giving them ample opportunity to compete with other creative genius across the city.

Interhouse Sankrit Nukkad Natak

Nukkad Natak is a depiction of various problems that impact the society through street plays. An interhouse nukkad natak competitions was held in Sankrit on July 15, 2016. All four houses participated in competition with the following themes.

  • Nalanda House - Saving Nature
  • Ujjain House - Saving Trees
  • Takshshila - Emanicipation of Women
  • Sanchi House - Saving Nature
Takshshila house won the first prize in the above competition.

Van Mahotsav (Gardening Club Activity)

Gardening club celebrated Van Mahotsav at Hillwoods in the month of July. The planning of celebrating Van Mahotsav was done well before during club meeting. During the club meeting children were asked to prepare book marks for gifting teachers at the time of Van Mahotsav. Bookmarks were made on the theme � GO GREEN�. Few students were chosen as volunteers for plantation during Van Mahotsav. Students from standard VIII were selected as volunteers. Volunteers performed their duties with full dedication. Volunteers of gardening club dug pit on the ground for each and every class. They also provided saplings to the children for plantation. One group was on the field all the time to handle the task. The other group was escorting classes and was checking discipline during the time. Volunteers successfully completed the task for classes Nursery to 12th . overall it was a wonderful and a successful event handled by gardening club.

Interhouse Dance Competition (Primary)

"Unity in Diversity" has been one of great characteristics of our nation which has bound people of all religions together in one bond of humanity. Despite of diversities in religion, language, culture, dress and food, we all stay with harmony as one united nation - INDIA. This very idea of "'Unity in Diversity' was depicted very well by each house but in their own style with fusion of many regional dances. Nalanda house performed the fusion of dances from Rajasthan, Punjab, Kashmir and South of India. Ujjain house performed the fusion of Goanese, Assamese, Gidda and Lavani. Takshashila house came up with dances from South India, Garba from Gujarat, Bhangra from Punjab and West Bengal. Lastly Sanchi house danced to the tunes of 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' again with fusion of dances from Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat and South India. The judgement was done on the basis of costume, co-ordination in steps, props, timing, expression, etc. First position was attained by Sanchi House, followed up by Nalanda house. Ujjain and Takshashila house secured third position.

Interhouse Shloka Competition (Primary)

Shloka recitation competition was held in the school on 14-07-16. Children from class I-III, participated in this competition. Various schloka's with different meanings were recited by the children. They explained the shlokas very nicely. Children were judged on the basis of their confidence, presentation and explaination. The shloka's were dedicated to forgiveness, cleanliness, truthfulness, studies, etc. Overall the competition went off smoothly.

JAM :Just a minute game (Primary)

Interhouse JAM (Just a Minute) Competition was organized on 7-7-2016 for the students of classes III, IV and V. The purpose of this competition was to improve the concentration and time management of the students. In each house there were 3 students, one from each class. There were total three rounds.

  • First Round � was for the students of V std. It was a memory game. 30 words were spoken at a stretch and the student who wrote the maximum words in one minute won the round.
  • Second Round� was for the students of IV std. This was a lock & key matching game. It was real fun.
  • Third Round �was for the students of III std. In this round students had to juggle two balloons without letting the balloon fall to the ground for 1 minute. One who juggled the balloons for the maximum time won the round.
Ujjain House stood first and won the competition. Takshashila House stood second. All the students were excited and enjoyed the competition as it was something new and innovative for them to do.

Workshop on Chemistry Popularization

�Chemistry is like a majestic skyscraper�.
Chemistry is an art that has furnished the world with a great number of useful facts and has thereby contributed to many arts. Workshop on �Chemistry Popularization� was held in Delhi Public School, Gandhinagar on 7th of July, 2016 in collaboration with Association of chemistry teachers, c/o Homi Bhabha Centre for science education,(TIFR), Mumbai and the Australian National Chemistry Quiz(ANCQ) in invigilation of its vice-president Dr Brijesh Pare and Panel member Dr Prabodh Chobe.The workshop helped students in :
  • Inculcating interest of chemistry learning among young students.
  • Promoting and encouraging an awareness of the nature and relevance of chemistry among school students.
  • To develop problem solving ability, observation and high order thinking skills.
The events included Talk on � Could Chemistry learning be fun , Why scientists are so great , Future innovations based on chemistry, Out of the Box Thinking , Discovery of Fullerene and Learning by Doing in which students performed a few chemistry experiments based on principle of density and chromatography. Four students from our school attended the workshop. The workshop included Chemistry Quiz in which Madhav Patel of class XIA was one of the winners who answered all of the questions correctly. He was awarded with a winner trophy and participation certificate. Preet Shah (XIA), Sudeep Nair (XC), Shaulendra Kumar(XA) were given participation certificates. It was a good learning experience for students and teachers.

Celebrating International Yoga Day

Yoga is attaining the pose and checking the impulses of mind. In this age of stress ,tension and anxiety yoga is required in order to get rid of physical fatigue and mental stress. Hillwoodians have celebrated the International Yoga Day by doing various yogasanas like Tadasan , Trikonasana , Padhastasaha , Ardhcha krasana , Vrukhasana , Garudasana etc. The celebration saw enthusiastic students willing taking part in yoga formations. The students had the fortunate opportunity to learn new yogasanas from skilled sports teachers. The events was a great success as the students passed the flexibility tests with flying colours. The students enjoyed a lot, learning the old tradition of doing Yoga . All in all it was pleasure to learn through fun.

Interhouse Heritage Quiz Competition (Juniors)

India is a land of various culture and traditions. It is the country of the oldest civilizations in the world. We are proud of Indian rich cultural heritage. Keeping this in view, we organize the Interhouse Heritage Quiz Competition every eyar for our children. This year also the competition was held on 28-04-16. A variety of questions related to Indian heritage ware asked to the children. There were three rounds : Round-I with options , Round-II without options & Round-III visual round. All the houses actively particiapted and could answer most of the questions. They were asked questions based on different forms, monuments, festivals, authors, and indian mythology. Sanchi house stood first with maximum number of correct answers folowed by Takshashila on second position. Everbody enjoyed the competition.

Cooking without Fire

The Hillwoodians participated in "Cooking without fire" activity organized in the School as a part of their Club Activity. They prepared food cuisines of different types like Mocktails, Salads, Sandwiches, Beverages & Deserts to display their cullinary skills. The display of food items depicted their aesthetic sense. There was a wide variety of food item on display which was mouth watering. Children enjoyed learning how to cook without fire.

Learning Table Manners (Primary Activity)

Table manner activity was held on 13-04-2016 for the students of class I to V. The students were asked to bring the following materials:

  • Spoon
  • Knife
  • Fork
  • Napkin
The students were introduced to the basic concepts of table manners. as well as the correct usage and placement of cutlery. It was an interactive activity session and the kids learnt about various rules to be followed at the table.
  1. Sit Erect
  2. Do not talk while eating
  3. Keep you mouth close while eating food
  4. Chew your food properly
  5. Finish your food
  6. Wash your hands before and after eating food
The students enjoyed the activity a lot.

Graduation Ceremony (Pre-primary)

Graduating means getting an academic degree. Before the graduation, the students are referred to as graduands. The date of graduation is often called "Graduation Day". The graduation ceremony itself is also called as convocation or invocation.
The graduation ceremony of the KG students was celebrated on Mar 17, 2016 in the school auditorium. The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp. The tinytots were dressed up in their school uniform along with their graduation caps. The pre-primary students entered the auditorium with a musical procession along with their class teachers. Head Mistress Madam, Ms Sunita Sehgal addressed the convocation complementing the little one's for their achievements. It was indeed a memorable day for the parents as well as the students. Respected HM and Cor-ordinator Madam gave away the certificates for the littler ones.
